The Department of Naval Architecture, in the context of its vision and mission, aims to conduct research and disseminate scientific knowledge in modern Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, including the design, construction and corresponding methodologies, both for ships and floating structures.
The Department actively participates and implements research programs, either independently or through national and international collaborations with universities and research institutes.
The areas in which research programs have been implemented in recent years focus on the broader context of marine engineering, specifically on the development of a system for monitoring emissions & operating parameters of a ship (e-Greenship, total project budget: € 300,000.00) and on the investigation of the use of liquefied natural gas as fuel in existing ships (LNG COMSHIP, total project budget: € 707,000.00). Also, a great percentage of the academic staff of the Department participates in National and European research programs of other universities and research institutes.
