Postgraduate Studies Program
Advanced Technologies in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
The Department of Naval Architecture of University of West Attica organizes the Postgraduate Studies Program (Master of Science) entitled “Advanced Technologies in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering“.
The purpose of the program is to provide specialized knowledge in state-of-the-art technologies in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, and their application to contemporary design problems.
The objectives of the program are:
- To improve the competitiveness of the country’s scientific potential in the field of shipping, maritime transport and tourism.
- To provide a balanced interaction between theoretical knowledge and practical skills so that graduates acquire high theoretical training as well as the know-how and the practical experience to be able to respond to the needs imposed by the rapid technological developments and the shipping industry demands.
- To specialize Naval Architects and other Engineers, of related disciplines, in research methods and techniques, enabling them to produce new knowledge and preparing them for a possible next step towards doctoral (Ph.D.) studies.
In particular, the graduate of the Postgraduate Studies Program will be able to:
- Analyse requirements, assess and select technological solutions regarding the design, construction, operation and maintenance of ships, floating structures, and fleets.
- Utilize software tools and design technologies in an optimum manner.
- Analyse and design complex ship systems and subsystems.
- Utilize technologies of 3D modelling and numerical methods for the design of ships and floating structures.
- Analyse and solve complex applied problems regarding the operation and maintenance of ships.
- Understand the interaction of technologies from the physical level to the application level in the most efficient manner.
Duration and title of studies
The Postgraduate Studies Program has a duration of three (3) academic semesters. The first and the second academic semesters include the teaching of 11 courses (lectures, laboratory assignments and exams). The third semester includes the teaching of one course and the preparation of the Diploma Thesis.
The Postgraduate Studies Program leads to the award of a Postgraduate Degree of Specialisation (Master of Science) in “Advanced Technologies in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering”.
